Fall is coming!

I looked outside early last week and I wanted to cry when I saw the trees in my neighbours yard. in June the trees were nice and green but the leaves havea brown tinge to them now!! Also the weather is getting a bit cold. The other morning when i was walking home from work at 730 am I was wishing for a coat and a pair of mitts!!!

Yoga for the cats!!

I was at Chapters today buying some books and a latte' at Starbucks when I came across book titled "Yoga for Cats"! I just had to buy it. It's a funny little book with drawings of cats in differnet yoga poses. Who knows maybe Mr. Mooche will want to take up yoga!

Funny stories!!

I have been asked (nagged) about posting some of the funny things that have happened to me when working. Now, these things happened back in May when I was still working at Pro-Tem.

I was working a stretch of nights in May before and after graduation at a house other then my normal one. The first stretch of 6 12 hours nights I was paired with one of the regular night staff members from that home. Most of my shifts I worked with Tina.

Now, I must say working double on nights can either be fun or boring… depending on if your partner is fun… I am glad to say she is fun!!!
Now for the stories! The first one is only really funny if you have worked nights and know how it fees when you are super tired and can’t sleep and it’s like 4:30 am!!

What happened is that all night long we put our garbage in the garbage can… veggie peelings and stuff now its 4:30 am and we have to pull the full and over heavy garbage bag out of a cylinder shaped flip top garbage can…. To our horror the bag was suctioned to the bottom of the can!!! This meant we spent about 10 or 15 mins pulling on the bag and then the bag and the can. By the end we were laughing; I was trying not to pee my pants and laugh to loud cause we don’t want to wake the residents at that time of the morning.

The next thing happened when I was again working with Tina but it’s the end of May and I think I am on my last shift at Pro-tem and things have now settled down in the house so they are back to working one staff member.

I just came in for my 730pm start when this good looking family member walks in and asks if he can take his uncle out… Well I hardly ever work there so I ask and they say sure so off they go….. They come back at around 830pm I think anyways.

In the evenings we feed everyone snacks and that night we had toast and jam. Now most of the residents are in bed and I will be cleaning the kitchen soon as everyone is in bed. But I can’t really cause the family member and resident are up chatting and walking around the house. Now, it seemed like this guy wanted to stay and chat with Tina and I and we were not really rushing him out of the house.

So he sits down on one of the chairs and starts asking us about this CD player… well then he stands up and I guess he does something to notice that he SAT IN JAM!!! Well, once he draws our attention to it Tina and I start to laugh!!! He then turns around and wants me to clean it off his BUTT!!! I am really laughing now and tell him he can use the bathroom... he stands there and asks me to wipe it off…. So, what’s a girl to do but wipe it? I must say I question whether or not he was wearing underwear. This jam was basically at his crotch!! He then heads into the bathroom to see whether or not I got it all!!

Well, Tina and I laughed and laughed about that.

All, I can say is that the jam was high and near the seam that meets in the middle of our crotch and then goes down your inner thigh!!!!

Television at my house!!!

I am glad to announce that I have T.V.

I just got back from purchasing a new 20" Ultra flat screen TV!!!!!!!!

I also have signed up for Digital cable TV. I must say this is a HUGE step for me & I am very excited. My cable will be hooked up on the 6th of September. That is a ways off but it will give me time to move all my living room furniture around to allow for the TV and computer to access the cable.

If anyone has TV suggestions please send them my way. I really haven't had TV in years so any suggestions are welcome.

What's been happening here?

Well I am glad to say that not much has been happening. Well, maybe I am ...... life is a bit boring but I am learning to be school free.

As I said in a previous post I am not heading home this fall becuase I have applied for some different jobs. As of right now I have applied for 4 fulltime positions; 2 are on the maternity floor , 1 is on the floor I currently work, and the final 1 is on the family medicine/pallative care floor. I am hoping that I get one of them. The best part is that they are all 2day and 2 nights then 5 days off. That will give me lots of time to do some fun things.

I am thinking of joining the gym..... still thinking. I am also going to be signing up for pottery classes in the fall. I am sure that will be interesting. Hmmmm, I think that is it. Natalie is having a party ont eh 1st of September to celebrate the passing of the RN's.. I am sure there will be pictures and drunken stories to share.

Well, I think that is it for now. I must get back to my vegging!

Some News

Hello!!
I just wanted to send out a little note to everyone.
I know that I had told some of you that I would be coming out to BC to visit Fall. Unfortunately, I have had to change my plans.

The reason being that I have applied for 4 new job positions at the hospital and if I get one of them I am unsure if I would be able to take the time off. So, at this time I don't have plans to come to BC but, there is always next year.

When I put on my fortune telling hat and costume,

I see a big move in my future.....perhaps next fall???

PASSED!!!!!!!

Well, I am excited to say that things are good. I passed my registration exams I wrote on the7th of June. I am now an RN.... Elizabeth Lowe, BNRN

Early mornings with Nat

Some weekday mornings my friend Natalie will stop by for tea before heading off to work. She usually come between 0530 & 0545. Why this early do you ask? Well, because her BF works at 0600 some mornings & instead of cabing for the cost of 20$ in to work he drops her off at my house & then we both or sometimes just she walks to work.

Now the funny thing about this is that she loves cats & I belive that she really likes mine but, the sad news is that she is allergic to them :( Now being the attention seekers that my cats are & the need for them to be where the action is they just love her.

Yoda likes to hang around her & tries to lick her.

While Bailey rests her tail on her or pokes her so that she will pet her.

Then there is Mr. Mooche; he loves her because she will play fetch with him but sometimes he just lays on his back & wheezes...

I am sad to announce that Winter is coming!!!

The last couple of nights I have started sleeping with my windows closed, flannel PJ's & under my duvet cover!! In July I was sleeping with a fan, naked (close your eyes), and on top of the covers... Soon, the leaves will be falling I will be wearing longjohns and Parkas and have frozen nose hairs!!!

Oh the happy thoughts that brings to me!

Who knows this could be the last winter I spend in the Arctic Hell of the East Coast!!

I must go fill my hot water bottle!!

New Hair!!

Well I know some of you might have read my post about the hair issue I had in July where i only got blonde highlights in the top of my head... Well, the urge to colour my hair was still there... I even bought the dye.. but I couldn't make myself do it! I think that means I am growing... or something.
So, yesterday I thought I will make an appt and go in. well I got one at Razor's edge. I have been there before but the person I have been seeing wasn't in today so I went with someone else. I must say I love my new colour!!!!!!!! I didn't go with a cut I am trying to grow my hair out... at least until I decide on what I want. So here are some pictures of my new hair!!

It's been hot

Well the last couple of weeks have been warm here. The cats have taken to sleeping in the bathroom during the day! He are a couple of shots of Yoda hanging in the tub!

On my own!!

Yahoooo!!! I just wanted to share with everyone the fact that I have now been working on my own for 3.5 shifts... which included more banked overtime!! (I will be home in no time!) The good news is that I feel good and that there have only been one or two moments of panic! But I was over them quickly and on to other things. The even better news is that all my patients are still LIVING!!!!! That is really, really good news!:)

Vacation!!

I don't really have any vacation until next year but I am starting to miss everyone. Also I have yet to meet Owen although his pictures are on my fridge. So I am currently saving hours so that I can come out and visit this Fall. Right now it looks like either late October or November and I am thinking that it will be more like November.

Now... because I will be asking for the use of either a pull out couch or a small space on a floor somewhere I was wonderign if any one had any times that they may like to see me... or weekends/days that they wouldn't be around. I don't want to be out to visit if you have a huge trip planned somewhere fun... unless you were taking me with you!!!!!! The 2 possible weekends in November are the 10th and 24th. My tentative plans are to spend sometime on the mainland and then the rest in Campbell River. If anyone who has suggestions or hears of seats sales let me know!!

On my own!

Well I am now on my own. What that means is I am looking after pts without another RN watching me! I was supposed to work a 8 hour day adn then start my 1st shift saturday am (tomorrow) but, they were short an RN so they asked me to fill in for an extra 4 hours of OT (time and a half)!!!! What can you say but yes! so i worked it.... It was a bit scary... but I think I did everything; I will find out in the morning. As it is I am banking my OT so that the government doesn't tax me to death and so that I can be paid when I go on vacation this fall!!

New Furniture!!

Well I am excited to say that I have purchased some new furniture!! Alas, it is not a bed.... But a dresser!!! Good Bye suitcase and HELLO DRESSER!!

Now before you get too excited it is not fancy dresser... Some might not even call it a dresser.

I was out looking & I must say the ones I like were like hundreds of bucks!!!! The cheap ones sucked & I didn't really like them.... So, I bought a plastic set of drawers. I know I hear everyone...

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING!!"

Well, it's like this the idea of buying something that I don't like and that at a cheap price costs 90 bucks offends me. So, I bought this because it is light (easy to move) and cheaper. That in my way of thinking means that it will be easy to cart with me as I move... When ever that is and to where ever I might go. Now here is a picture... I just dropped everything in....
